This is my second pair of Grubbs Wellingtons. The first were Speylines and have lasted close to 5 years being worn 3 to 4 times a week for 2 to 4 hrs at a time. The uppers have sadly cracked due to lack of care, and the inner lining is wearing simply due to normal use. they have been te most comfortable and grippy wellingtons I have ever had. My new boots are equally comfortable and I am expecting big things from them. 1 star deducted due to being advised that they were in stock when ordered, but followed by an email to advise they weren't and your delivery was late. Didnt cause me any issues, but sounds like a little porkie to me.

Look good quality. Roomy and keep feet warm with normal socks only on.
Only issue I'm having is they are tiring to walk in. The bigger heel seems to change the whole walking action compared to my previous boots and is a noticeably more tiring walking experience. My knees have also felt achy. I'm hoping this settles down as time goes on. Use twice daily on 20 min dog walks

Since moving to the coast 2 years ago I’ve been on the lookout for improving footwear for conditions which can be more extreme. In particular there’s a tidal walking route over the rocks via the beach at the bottom of the hill - at Skinningrove to Saltburn-by-the-Sea which has become a favourite 5-miler.

It was on the beach a few weeks ago that I saw a gentleman wearing Grubs 5’s, which I thought would be just the job for such a route: I’m 74 with a fell walking background, so know the importance of appropriate footwear. He confirmed that he was very happy with his choice, and that they were indeed waterproof.

So far I’ve just tried these 8.5’s out on a short walk - fit is very reassuring (see below), I appreciate the ‘bounce’ experienced in the heel, and I have already resolved to wear these until they become a second well protected skin.

I chose this pair because they have Vibram soles, knowing they are of excellent quality (from wearing fell boots). Fit is superb, though I’ll be using an extra liner sock on my right foot (since it’s slightly smaller than my left). The degree of ‘cosy warmth’ was also appreciated.

The information was spot-on regarding using a thicker pair of socks.

I’ve got tons of work tasks to do here,
but I’m tempted to save these for best
only - primarily for walking. That’s because I know that they are excellent quality, and deserve being looked after.

The gentleman had bought his pair from a farm shop up the road which sells the 5’s, and it’s no surprise to learn there that the company holds such a long history of boot making:

Bought these to replace another make that had split between the neoprene and the sole. Excelent for walking on muddy river banks, comfortable and warm even when stood in the river in December.

Feel warm on first inspection, sizing generous, I'm a 10 and bought a 10 and plenty of room for a couple of pairs of socks if required.
Only given 4 stars as have worn them in the cold yet
