What Do These Standards Mean?
These trousers meet the safety standard EN 343:2003. So what does this mean exactly?
- The EN 343:2003 standard refers to a European standard for protective clothing that specifies requirements for garments designed to protect against:
The standard focuses on the performance of the clothing in terms of its resistance to water penetration (waterproofness) and its breathability. When trousers or any other protective clothing item is labelled with the EN 343:2003 standard, it means that they have undergone testing and meet the specified requirements outlined in the standard.
- These requirements include parameters such as:
- Water resistance
- Breathability
- Resistance to water penetration
In the context of trousers, the EN 343:2003 standard signifies that the trousers have been designed and tested to provide a certain level of protection against wet weather conditions, ensuring that they are waterproof and breathable. Where Can I Use These Trousers?
As we have just mentioned, these trousers pass several criteria for use in a variety of weather conditions, including cold and warm temperatures. They are therefore ideal for a wide range of trade applications that are predominantly outside:
- Construction Work: Construction workers often work outdoors and are exposed to various weather conditions. They may need protective trousers that are waterproof to keep them dry and comfortable during rainy or wet conditions.
- Landscaping and Gardening: Professionals in landscaping and gardening spend a significant amount of time working outdoors. They may require trousers that offer protection against rain and wet ground to keep them dry while working in gardens, parks, or other outdoor environments.
- Forestry and Logging: Forestry workers and loggers frequently work in forests or wooded areas where they are exposed to rain, snow, and wet conditions. Trousers with the EN 343:2003 standard can help protect them from moisture and maintain their comfort and safety.
- Farming and Agriculture: Farmers and agricultural workers often work outdoors, tending to crops, livestock, and machinery. They may encounter wet conditions due to rain, irrigation, or working in fields with damp soil. Waterproof trousers can provide them with protection against moisture during their work.
- Utility and Infrastructure Maintenance: Workers involved in utility maintenance, such as electricians, telecommunications technicians, or road maintenance crews, often work outdoors. They may need trousers with waterproof properties to keep them dry while performing their tasks, even in wet weather conditions.
- Outdoor Event Staff: Staff members working at outdoor events, such as concerts, festivals, or sporting events, may require protective trousers to stay dry in case of rain or wet ground conditions. This ensures their comfort throughout the event.
These are just a few examples of outdoor work where protective trousers meeting the EN 343:2003 standard can be beneficial. The standard ensures that workers have appropriate clothing to withstand the challenges posed by adverse weather conditions.
What Other Environments are These Trousers Suitable For?
Waterproof trousers can be helpful in a range of other industries that aren't exclusively outdoor work. Some examples of this include:
- Warehouses
- Forklift driving

- Railway work
- Building and construction
- Emergency services
